The SICON Conveyor

The fourteen advantages!

This is why Sicon leads the competition in environmentally friendly transport of bulk materials.
Sicon is an enclosed belt conveyor.

A single, continuous belt that goes around sharp corners from loading to discharge, eliminating the need for transfer points. The belt is open only during loading and discharge, the returning section is closed. Thus there are no dust or spillage problems.

The easy installation, the drastically reduced cleaning costs and the enormous improvement in the working environment yield great savings.

The brilliant idea.

Two overlapping profiles keep Sicon tightly sealed around sharp corners.

Sicon conveyor belts are folded to form a closed, pear-shaped bag.

Steel cord reinforcements are vulcanized into the profiles of the belt. The profiles serve as tracks for the belt's angled support rollers and vertical guide rollers. The steel cords absorb all the tensile stress of the conveyor drive system.

When the conveyor belt is folded together; one steel cord is above the other. Thus both cords have the same radius in curves, which means the belt can handle tight 1800 corners. The highly elastic material of the load-carrying part of the belt follows along easily.

Loading
Loading stations can be located anywhere along the length of the conveyor. The belt is opened by deflection rollers into a U-shape and the opening around the loading chute is covered.

The flexible load-carrying part of the belt absorbs the impact of the falling material. The load is immediately at rest in the pear. shaped belt and accelerates quickly

Drive/Curves
The belt negotiates tight corners with the help of simple deflection wheels, which can be equipped with intermediate drive units at every corner or curve where the wrap angle is at least 90.

Discharge
The elasticity of the belt allows very efficient discharge.

Horizontal discharge Here the belt opens out into a horizontal orientation (similar to conventional belt conveyors). On the return run, the belt closes with the dirty side inwards before twisting back to it's normal position.

Tripper type discharge This discharge offers the option of completely emptying the load, or reloading into the returning part, which is closing as it continues. Here, we gather any spillage on the lower part of the belt before it closes again. The belt can be emptied anywhere along the length of the conveyor.

Sicon's advantages increase as requirements are escalated.

The demands on the working environment are constantly growing, just like the requirements for rational operation and improved economy The more challenging the transport problem, the better Sicon responds.

The belt's ability to take sharp corners eliminates transfer stations, with their spillage and dust, whenever the transport route makes a new turn. Sicon's flexibility also means that the layout can be simply and neatly planned around obstacles in existing premises without costly rebuilding.

Sicon appears to its greatest advantage as the requirements escalate- whether they may involve environmental protection, sensitive cargoes or the smooth transmission of the belt through a complicated layout.

This belt conveyor has been employed for several years in a number of different industries throughout the world. Many customers have purchased additional Sicon conveyors as a result of their favorable experiences with their original installations.

At AVEBE TAK in Holland, Sicon transports moist, sticky potato residues from loading to discharge through two 90 curves, with no troublesome spillage and with the smallest possible consumption of energy.

Rockwool AB, Sweden, replaced its previous pneumatic transport system for shredded rock wool.Today, Sicon transports the material in an enclosed conveyor. It proved feasible to replace the pneumatic conveyor without extensive alterations in the existing buildings.

Hydro Supra AB, Sweden, avoids moisture and dust-producing transfer stations while transporting granules. Thanks to Sicon, the material is transported the entire distance from production to storage in one single conveyor - totally encl5sed and protected against moisture. The route runs through a new, open belt gallery, in which only the belt itself is covered.

Hgans AB, Sweden, needed to transport two different qualities of iron powder which were never to becontaminated. This imposed a unique requirement for thoroughly emptying the belts. Today, Sicon conveys the iron powder without dust and spillage - in aT-shaped continuous ioop with 10 loading and 2 discharge stations. The completely enclosed material is also protected against moisture.

Once again, Sicon displayed its ability in solving several difficult problems simultaneously.

Dusty, sticky intractable or sensitive bulk commidities.

The shortcut to improving the environment and cutting transport costs.

Sicon benefits from its ability to solve several problems at one and the same time. Sicon's flexibility proves its superiority in situations where other conveyors involve special facilities.

For example, the goal might be to install a belt conveyor without complicated remodeling, improve the work environment, and transport a different load in the returning section of the belt - all at the same time. The list of problems that Sicon can solve simultaneously is long. Furthermore, Sicon uses its wealth of experience and well-proven technology to literally find the shortcut to profitability.

Easy and flexible installation in existing buildings.

Because it is so plyable, the Sicon belt is easy to install. Existing buildings and structures can be used. The belt makes its way around obstacles in restricted quarters.

The flexibility of the Sicon belt opens up entirely new opportunities for conveyor layout. In addition, as compared with other enclosed conveyors, fewer and less complex rollers are required. This means a major reduction in the costs for building conversion, belt galleries and suspension mountings.

Every corner represents a saving.

It is always cheaper to draw the Sicon belt around corners than to build the transfer stations required by conventional systems. And Sicon eliminates some of the investments that conventional conveyor systems may require, such as transfer houses, dust extractors, service platforms and the loss of elevating height at all the transfer points.

Low energy consumption.

The energy required is the same as for ordinary belt conveyors. But it is significantly less than that needed for screw and chain conveyors, and a fraction of the energy consumed by pneumatic conveyors.

Protects sensitive loads.

The closed conveyor belt protects the cargo throughout the entire transport route. Open belt conveyor systems often encounter such problems as costly enclosures along the belt and at all transfer stations.

The clean environment around Sicon means big savings.

The closed belt eliminates all the costs for handling spillage, and significantly lowers cleaning costs. There is no need for belt cleaning during discharge, which reduces wear and tear on the belt.

Deterioration of the transported material is also reduced because the belt absorbs the impact during loading. Tracking problems from off center loading is eliminated because the load hangs in the centre of the belt. Reduced spillage and dust also mean less wear and tear on the support and guide rollers.

SICON seals in the profits!

No loss of material.

A British study, conducted in 1987 by the Bulk Materials Handling Committee of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, shows that the annual costs for material losses in the British industry associated with dust and spillage during bulk handling operations amount to approximately 200 million.

A similar investigation carried out in 1986 at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden shows that the costs for material losses and spillage cleanup are almost 1 per ton of transported material!

These are costs that can be drastically reduced with SICON!

Great improvements in health and the environment.

The sealed belt and the absence of transfer stations effectively separate dust and other dangerous substances from the surroundings.
