Types of Belt Conveyors

A number of different types of belt conveyors can be used to transport materials from the feed point to the desired discharge point.

It is incumbent on the engineer to consider the alternative types of conveyors available and to make a selection according to the particular criteria set out for the installation.

The Sicon conveyor is but one type of conveyor which is used today and the unique features of the Sicon are often the strongest motivation for clients electing to install Sicon conveyors.

It is however important to consider the features, costs, capabilities, etc. of alternative technologies and this Handbook provides details on the major belt conveyor concepts in use today (click on tabs at top of screen to view details on other belt conveyors).

Examples of these different types of conveyors can be seen below. To view the full-size graphic, please click on the appropriate thumbnail.

The type of conveyor to be used in any particular application depends on a number of factors including the conveying route, properties of the material to be transported, environmental considerations etc. These are dealt with in more detail in the section "design considerations" of this Handbook.
