Terminology
Whenever the details of idler rolls, bases and brackets are discussed by designers, it is important that the terminology used is clearly understood.
The basic terminology is outlined in these sketches for clarity.
- Standard idler rolls
D
=
Roll diameter
F
=
Roll face length
d
=
Shaft diameter
L =
Shaft length
G =
Guage length
S =
Broach width
- Standard troughed idler bases
A =
Pitch of securing bolts
E =
Overall Width
H =
Overall Height
B =
Roll Face
C = Total Idler Width T = Troughing Angle W = Overall Width
- Standard flat return idler brackets
K =
Drop height
A =
Pitch of Securing Bolts
B =
Roll Face
D =
Roll Diameter
- Standard troughed idler bases
K =
Drop height
A =
Pitch of Screw Bolts E =
Overall Width B =
Roll Face T = Angle W = Overall Width In addition to the above, idlers are divided into different 'series' according to their shaft diameters. Series 25, 30, 60 etc. idlers thus refers to idlers which have shaft diameters of 25 mm, 30 mm and so on.
