Locating rings

The following is an extract from the SKF catalogue, edited for this Handbook.

The bearing seating in the housings is sufficiently wide to allow axial freedom for any bearing. A bearing which is to locate the shaft should therefore be fixed in position by means of one or more locating rings. Floating bearings are generally not fitted with locating rings.

If this bearing is mounted on an adapter sleeve, the locating rings should be placed as follows to suit the application :-

i. 1 ring on the same side as the sleeve nut.

ii. 2 rings - one on each side of the bearing.

iii. 3 rings - two on the same side as the sleeve nut.

iv. 4 rings - two on each side of the bearing.
