Horizontal Belts

When the tangential velocity is sufficiently high (i.e. when the centrifugal force is equal to or greater than m) the material will leave the belt at the initial point of tangency with the pulley (point c on the diagram).

i.e. V2/gR ≥ 1

When the tangential velocity is not sufficiently high (i.e. when the centrifugal force is less than m) the material will continue part way around the pulley to the point c where it commences its trajectory, an angular position from the initial point of tangency z.
